With Marie Kondo’s Netflix show, “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo”, recently becoming a huge hit and the winter months slowly coming to an end, there’s one thing on everyone’s mind right now – spring cleaning! In theory, tidying up your place should be a fairly simple task, but anyone who’s done a proper spring cleaning before can tell you this isn’t always the case. Here’s everything you need to know to have a seamless spring cleaning session.

  1. Have a Plan in Place

The first thing you should do before you dive head first into a thorough spring cleaning session is to put a plan in place. Decide what order you’d like to clean the rooms in your house and get a sense of what needs to be done in each space. As a general rule, it’s usually a good idea to clean the room that will take the most work first. It’ll just get easier from there!

  1. Gather the Right Cleaning Supplies

Once you’ve established a plan to tackle the mess, make sure you have all the cleaning supplies you need to get the job done right. If you have disinfecting wipes, a quality duster, and a good ol’ Dyson vacuum, you’re already off to a good start.

  1. Clear Then Wipe

Make sure you clear everything off your tabletops and counters before you give them a good wipe. Don’t forget to also clean the items that are being put back in place – you’ll be thankful you saved yourself some time and effort! The last thing you need is remnants of dirt and debris getting on your now glistening surfaces.

  1. Organize As You Go

While you’re cleaning the various surfaces in your home, you should have some file folders and boxes handy so you can organize as you go and toss anything that doesn’t need to be around anymore. Remember, if an item hasn’t served any purpose for a few years and doesn’t hold any sentimental value it’s probably best to just throw it away.

  1. Don’t Forget The Small Stuff

Pay attention to small imperfections in your paint, finishings, carpets, and curtains so you can make the necessary arrangements to get them repaired. Also, check out your light bulbs and battery-powered gadgets so you can replace them as you go. You deserve to have a place that looks spick and span after all your hard work!

  1. Ask For Help

As for the outside of your home, sometimes it’s best to leave the window and exterior cleaning to a professional.  Their expertise can really come in handy in the long run!
